The Surrey Eagles will return to action this evening against the Victoria Grizzlies in the first of two meetings between the teams this season. In eight match-ups against the Grizzlies last year, the Eagles won six games and lost only one. The other game finished in a 4-4 tie.
Surrey is coming off a disappointing 4-2 loss in Chilliwack last Saturday. In that game, the Eagles gave up three goals in under four minutes early in the second period. Head coach Matt Erhart knows his team needs a better 60 minute effort tonight.
"We had a stretch in the second period where we were caught standing around watching Chilliwack move their feet," said Erhart. "They put three by us pretty quickly and I think that was the difference in the game right there."
Brett Mulcahy has been a pleasant surprise to start the year. The 19-year-old has three goals in four games. Mulcahy only had eight goals in the 2011-2012 season. Rookie forward Drew Best has also had a good start offensively, scoring twice including the overtime winner over Chilliwack last Friday.
The Grizzlies enter tonight's action in first place in the Island Division with a record of 3-0-0-1. Victoria is coming off a 2-1 victory over Cowichan Valley last Saturday. The Fitzgerald triplets, Gerry, Leo and Myles, are new additions to the Grizzlies this year after making the move to the island in an off-season trade from Prince George. The three brothers have combined for nine points in four games to start the season.
