The Birds came from behind last night to defeat the Chiefs 3-2. The win was capped off by Drew Best's double overtime winner to give Surrey its second win of the young season. It was the first BCHL goal for the native of Plymouth, Michigan.
The Eagles scored two of their three goals on Friday with the man advantage, and Surrey's power play has found the net 25 per cent of the time through three games. Meanwhile, the Chiefs went 0-for-5 on the power play in the loss to the Birds.
Mitch Gillam had a strong outing in goal for the Chiefs, despite picking up the loss. The 19-year-old made 34 saves and has a .948 save percentage so far this year. Glenn Ferguson improved to 2-0 with the victory in net for the Eagles. The Surrey native has allowed four goals in his first two BCHL starts.
Tonight's game marks the Chiefs official home opener even though they already played two games at the Prospera Centre during the BCHL Showcase. Chilliwack was strong at home last year, losing only eight games in regulation.
