The Surrey Eagles and Chilliwack Chiefs will meet for the final time in the regular season on Saturday evening at Prospera Centre in Chilliwack. Surrey leads the season series with a record of 4-2-0-1, and the Birds have won the last three meetings between the teams.
The Eagles are coming off a 3-2 victory over the Nanaimo Clippers on Friday. As a result of the win, Surrey clinched home ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs, and the Birds will now look to lock up first place in the Mainland Division. A victory over Chilliwack on Saturday would go a long way to achieving that goal as the Eagles sit eight points ahead of the Chiefs in the standings. Adam Tambellini has been racking up the points of late. The Eagles forward has points in four straight games since returning from injury, tallying two goals and four assists.
Chilliwack also played on Friday, defeating the West Kelowna Warriors 2-1 despite being out shot 49-35. Since their last meeting with the Eagles on January 25th, the Chiefs have struggled to find their form, losing five of seven games. Nevertheless, a couple of Chilliwack forwards are in the hunt for the Brett Hull Trophy as the league's leading scorer. Luke Esposito sits in second on the scoring list with 67 points while Austin Plevy is right on his heels in third place with 65 points. Langley's Mario Puskarich remains atop the list with 72 points.
