The Surrey Eagles will conclude their island road trip on Sunday afternoon when they face the Cowichan Valley Capitals at the Island Savings Centre. The game will mark the first meeting of the season between the two teams and the first of two games in a row for the Birds against the Caps.
The Eagles are flying high after clinching the Mainland Division title with a 4-4 tie against Alberni Valley on Saturday night. The Birds have been getting scoring from their top guns of late as Brady Shaw and Adam Tambellini have combined for 12 points in the last two games. The two Surrey forwards are both in the top 10 in league scoring as Shaw has a team best 35 goals and 65 points while Tambellini is a close second with 34 goals and 61 points.
Cowichan Valley has already been ruled out of the playoff picture as they sit 16 points back of the Powell River Kings with only six games remaining. Despite the fact that their season is drawing to a close, the Capitals enter Sunday's action on a two game winning streak, following back-to-back wins over the Victoria Grizzlies. On Saturday evening, the Capitals won in overtime on the strength of three power play goals including the winner, scored by Kyle Horsman. Cowichan has the league's best home power play, scoring on 30.48% of their opportunities with the man advantage at the Island Savings Centre.
