Pre-Game Report: Eagles at Bulldogs

The Surrey Eagles will continue their island road trip on Saturday night in Port Alberni with a match-up against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. The two teams have only faced each other once this season. The Bulldogs picked up a 5-4 win at the South Surrey Arena back on September 23rd.

The Birds are coming off one of their most exciting games of the season after coming from behind in the final five minutes to force overtime and eventually beat the Powell River Kings 5-4 on Friday. Adam Tambellini had four goals in the win. The 18-year-old forward now has 20 points in 11 games since being acquired from Vernon. Surrey could clinch first place in the Mainland Division tonight, but they would need a win coupled with a loss or a tie for the Chilliwack Chiefs who are at home to the Prince George Spruce Kings.

Alberni Valley has been playing some good hockey of late. The Dogs are coming off a 7-1 win over the Nanaimo Clippers on Friday and have won three of their last four, outscoring the opposition 22-9 over that span. Alberni will face the Clippers in the first round of the playoffs, but the two teams are still battling for home ice advantage. The Dogs currently sit one point back of Nanaimo, although the Clippers hold a game in hand. Alberni is also a strong club at home with a record of 15-7-0-3 at Weyerhaeuser Arena. Evan Tironese is the top offensive threat for the Bulldogs. The native of Qualicum Beach has 54 points in 46 games as a 17-year-old.
