Pre-Game Report: Game 2 - Eagles vs. Rivermen

The Surrey Eagles will host the Langley Rivermen for the second night in a row on Saturday evening at the South Surrey Arena for Game 2 of the Mainland Division Semi-Final. The Birds took the opening game 2-0 on Friday night. Michael Santaguida made 33 stops for the shutout in the Surrey net.

The Eagles will be looking to build off a solid Game 1 effort on Friday. While Santaguida was strong in goal, Surrey got a pair of important goals to secure the victory. The first came from the fourth line off the stick of Kevan Kilistoff after a nice setup by Joel Gaudet while Adam Tambellini added the insurance marker on the power play in the third period. The Birds' PP finished the night at 25 per cent while the Eagle penalty killers prevented the Rivermen from capitalizing on their three opportunities with the man advantage.

Despite losing the playoff opener, the Rivermen have a number of positives to build on ahead of Game 2. Langley out shot Surrey 33-27 on Friday night and had a number of high quality scoring chances. The key for the 'Men will be solving Santaguida. The Langley club will also likely be without the services of defenceman Mark Whiteley after he left Game 1 in the second period with an upper body injury and did not return to the action. The injury could prove to be a big hit for the Rivermen as they're already missing 20-year-old blue liner Logan Smith to injury.
