Drew Best had two goals as the Surrey Eagles opened their pre-season campaign with a convincing 5-0 victory over the Langley Rivermen tonight at the South Surrey Arena.
The home team got on the board just 5:39 into the opening frame when Brandon Morley scored on the power play after Demico Hannoun threw the puck into the crease from behind the net. Less than four minutes later, Best would score his first goal of the hockey game when he threw the puck on net from the half-wall, beating Barrie between the wickets.
The Eagles held their two goal lead until 4:08 of the second period when Michael Stenerson got on the board with a goal on the man advantage. Best would add another power play goal before the end of the period, and Surrey had a commanding 4-0 lead heading into the third period. Trevor Cameron would add the fifth and final goal with just 1:11 to go in the hockey game when he powered his way past a defender on the left wing and scored top shelf.
Eagles goaltender Glenn Ferguson pitched the shutout, playing the full 60 minutes to pick up the win.
Surrey went 3-for-9 on the power play while Langley 0-for-5.
