On Tuesday evening, the Surrey Eagles have a chance to advance to the Fred Page Cup Final as they visit the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in Game 4 of the Coastal Conference Final. The Birds have a 3-0 stranglehold in the best-of-seven series after winning Game 3 in OT in Monday.
Nic Pierog has been clutch for the Eagles in this series. The Ontario native, who is celebrating his 20th birthday today, scored nine goals in 54 games in the regular season but has tallied five goals in 10 games in the playoffs including two overtime winners. Meanwhile, the Surrey defence has been rock solid at the other end of the ice, allowing only one even-strength goal against in three games in the series. Michael Santaguida has a league-best 1.57 goals-against average in the post-season.
The Bulldogs face a must-win scenario on Tuesday night, but it's not an unfamiliar situation for them. The Dogs have already been on the brink five times in the playoffs, and needless to say, they are a perfect 5-0 in those games. Other than his costly turnover in OT, Jay Deo was very strong between the pipes in Game 3 -- as he has been throughout the series. The Alberni power play was improved as well, going 2-for-7.
